AR Snow Goggles
- Overview
- AR Snow Goggles is a hardware project building augmented-reality ski and snowboard goggles to improve on-moutain visibility on the low visibility days.
- Inspired and motivated by my own experiences in the backcountry.
- Currently in active development. Claude is helping immensely with the design and development.
- Problem
- I wanted to chase powder, but the visibility was too low due to the storm clouds overhead. The best terrain is in the backcoutnry, but it's also the most dangerous.
- The combination of low visibility and dangerout terrain is very high risk and high consequence if you make a mistake.
- The goggles boost brightness, contrast, and overall visbility so you can see the terrain features in front of you and improve situational awareness - minimizing risk.
- Highlights gradients in sloping terrain and edges of cliffs and cliffsides.
- BOM
- GPU: NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit
- Camera: Arducam xISP - Darksee, Pre-tuned ISP, 2MP Low Light MIPI Camera
- Display: 0.49" Micro OLED Display 1920x1080 3000 NITS
- Combiner / Beamsplitter: 25 x 25mm 30R/70T, VIS Plate Beamsplitter
- Design
- Light enters the camera, processed by the GPU, output to the mini-OLED display, directed to the eyes via the beamsplitter and combiner.
- CLAHE is used to enhance the contrast of the image from the camera.
